All about Renuvion Skin Tightening

As a state-of-the-art, minimally invasive technology, Renuvion is an energy-based skin rejuvenation treatment that is FDA-cleared for use following liposuction. It works by reaching deep within the skin to encourage skin tightening without damaging outer layers of tissue. It can be highly effective in reshaping loose skin under the neck, treating severe skin wrinkling, and improving skin tightness following fat reduction with liposuction.

Renuvion provides some immediate skin tightening through the targeted heating of a specific skin layer. Over time, additional tightening is achieved as the skin remodels and renews itself.

Your Renuvion Treatment

If you are having Renuvion on its own, the treatment will begin by placing you under general anesthesia so you can sleep comfortably while it is performed. Small incisions are made so that the device can reach the layer of skin that will be remodeled, and the device emits plasma energy (a combination of helium gas and radiofrequency) to prompt the skin layer to trigger a rejuvenation response.

The process to use Renuvion as part of a surgical procedure is very similar. Where possible, incisions used for the surgical procedure will also be used to administer Renuvion’s skin tightening energy. We have seen particularly pleasing results when applying Renuvion after fat has been removed from an area through liposuction.

Recovery after Renuvion

After your procedure, you’ll begin recovery in our surgery suite and be sent home the same day to begin recovery. Mild swelling and bruising are typical when having Renuvion as a standalone procedure. When pairing it with cosmetic surgery, it should not significantly increase bruising and swelling, or lengthen recovery time.

Many of our patients are back to their regular activities 2 to 3 days after their Renuvion procedure. Recovery may take longer if you’ve had Renuvion paired with cosmetic surgery. In most cases, you’ll be able to add in more strenuous activities and exercise around the 3 week mark. We’ll provide a full list of post-surgical instructions so you know what to expect as your recover.

Is Renuvion just for the face?

While we’ve seen dramatic results when using Renuvion in the jaw/chin area, it can effectively tighten skin anywhere on the face or body. The handpiece allows for both precise treatment of small areas or larger treatment of areas such as the abdomen or thighs.

Are the skin tightening results permanent?

After just a single Renuvion treatment, you can enjoy tighter skin in the treatment area for many years. You may see additional skin tightening up to a year after your treatment. The key to maintaining a firm skin tone  is to follow a healthy lifestyle and avoid weight fluctuations.

Can I have Renuvion on its own?

Absolutely. This treatment is able to remodel the skin whether or not it is paired with a plastic surgery procedure. In many cases, our patients see the best results when combining Renuvion with liposuction, which achieves both an improved contour on the body or face along with a smoother, more youthful skin tone.

Is Renuvion completely non-surgical?

The Renuvion device works by emitting plasma energy to a particular layer of the subdermal skin. Small incisions are needed to reach this layer with the device. However, these incisions should fade and be imperceptible with proper treatment, and you should not experience considerable discomfort during treatment or while recovering.

Why do the skin tightening results take so long to be seen?

Renuvion prompts your skin to remodel itself using natural collagen rebuilding processes. This process takes time, as new collagen cells are produced and the treated layer of tissue becomes firmer. While patients can see some skin tightening effect soon after their treatment, most report seeing their final results between 6 to 12 months later.
