What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is the most common cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States. It is used on its own to contour fatty deposits and in conjunction with other surgeries to deliver a more complete transformation. With modern technology it is usually bloodless and can be done in the office.
How Liposuction Is Performed
Swetnam Cosmetic has extensive training and experience in nearly all techniques including smart or laser liposuction, VASER liposuction, and with fat grafting techniques.
Most of our procedures are performed in the office with sedation and a solution to numb the areas being treated. General anesthesia is also available in certain situations. Most people leave the office and can resume activity the next day. Depending on the size of the area being treated, liposuction can usually be completed in one session. For larger areas, you might need to divide the procedure into smaller steps at intervals.
The mini tummy tuck is for those that need minimal skin tightened, are wanting to get rid of stretch marks low on the abdomen or need a scar revision and tightening from previous surgery.
Liposuction in the News
See Dr. Jeffrey Swetnam and Dr. Jason Stubbs discuss liposuction and the latest developments at our practice with Jaclyn and Jason on KNWA Fox 24.
Although liposuction can be performed on its own, it is typically performed with other surgeries. Sometimes it is an essential component, such as with fat transfer procedures like the Brazilian butt lift. In other cases, it simply helps the patient better achieve the goals, such as with a tummy tuck or complete mommy makeover. We offer liposuction as an add-on to any of our other cosmetic surgeries.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is best for those who are in good health and at a stable weight but have a bit of stubborn fat they’d like to eliminate or smooth out. Ideally, the patient should be at a healthy BMI as well. It is important that anyone considering liposuction has realistic expectations for the surgery and understands the difference between body contouring and weight loss.
After liposuction, most of our patients are able to return to normal activities within 2 to 3 days and more strenuous activities within 3 to 4 weeks. A specific post-operative treatment plan will be developed, tailored to your needs. Be sure to stick to your instructions for the best results.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does liposuction cost?
The cost of liposuction varies based on numerous factors, including the size of the area treated, if multiple areas are being addressed and even the technique used. The total cost will include the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia fee, facility/OR fee and may include other costs as well. To get an accurate estimate for your unique procedure, schedule a consultation with Dr. Swetnam or Dr. Stubbs.
Can liposuction help me lose weight?
Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure; is specifically meant to contour the body, creating smoother and slimmer lines.. While you might notice the scale move a bit depending on how much fat is eliminated and whether or not you are also doing a fat transfer, this won’t be significant. On top of this, post-surgery swelling will likely mask any weight loss you experience.
How do I find the best liposuction cosmetic surgeon near me?
Begin by researching cosmetic surgeons near you and checking patient reviews. Sticking with the top reviewed surgeons is an easy first step, then head to their websites to see their before and after photos of liposuction patients to see how they align with your goals. Next, schedule consultations with 2 to 3 surgeons you think will be a good fit and select the one who feels like the right person to partner with for your surgery.
What are the scars like after liposuction?
Liposuction scars are generally quite small, less than half an inch. During the healing stage, they might be a bit visible, but for most people, they fade enough over time that others don’t notice them. During your consultation, you can see before and after photos to get a better idea of how liposuction incisions heal.
Can liposuction cause sagging skin?
Loose skin is the result of the loss of or damage to collagen and elastin fibers. While removing volume underneath loose skin can make sagging more obvious, liposuction itself does not cause this. Your surgeon will assess your skin elasticity at your consultation and may recommend Renuvion® skin tightening.
