Many patients struggle with confidence after losing a significant amount of weight. Even though it is a major feat to overcome obesity, some become frustrated or discouraged with the aftermath: excess skin, stretch marks, and stubborn fat in unwanted areas. If this sounds familiar to you, read our patient testimonial who has been there and is now healthy and confident with her new body.
Patient Spotlight: Michelle Posy
I have struggled with being overweight all my life. In November 2010, I decided to have gastric bypass surgery with Dr. Roller. I initially lost about 80 pounds, but it was important to me to be able to maintain my weight loss before I considered cosmetic surgery. After being able to maintain my weight loss for over 4.5 years, I decided to seek out a cosmetic surgeon. I went to a support group offered by Dr. Roller, and the presentation was on body contouring, primarily after weight loss surgery. That was the first time I met Dr. Swetnam.
Swetnam’s presentation was very informative, and he had a great sense of humor. I left that support group and had a feeling he was the surgeon for me. I called his office the next day and made an appointment for a consultation in spring 2015. Throughout the consultation his entire staff was so nice. He came and answered every question my husband and I had. He never made me feel uncomfortable, and I walked out of the consultation knowing he would be my surgeon. Within the week, I called his office back and told them I wanted to schedule my surgery. In November 2015, I had a breast lift, breast augmentation, and a tummy tuck. Even though I had been able to maintain almost a 90 pound weight loss at that point, I still struggled with my body image when I looked in the mirror.
Although I was very happy I had lost all the weight and was healthier, despite working out with a trainer, I still had excess skin. I did not feel comfortable in a swimsuit, and when I sat down my excess skin looked like fat rolls. I wanted to be able to look in the mirror and see the complete picture, not just the next to last chapter of my journey. I knew I was able to maintain my weight loss, I knew Dr. Swetnam was the surgeon of my choice, and I knew this step would complete my journey and allow me to see the “real Michelle” who had been hidden behind the weight for so many years.
It has been almost eight months since the surgery with Dr. Swetnam. He and his entire staff made me feel at ease from day one. The day of surgery is somewhat a blur for me, but I know Dr. Swetnam was great at keeping my family informed of my progress. The follow up care was fabulous.
Dr. Swetnam and his team did not treat me like any patient. They go above and beyond. I do not have a single regret from surgery. I have so much more self-confidence. In fact, I now own a two-piece swimming suit, and I wear it with confidence. That never would have happened before my body contouring surgery. I am so fortunate to have met Dr. Swetnam for a variety of reasons: I found the best cosmetic surgeon who specializes in body contouring with a fabulous bedside manner, and I also made a friend. I absolutely love Dr. Swetnam and his entire staff; so much in fact that my phone’s lock screen is a picture of me with my two favorite surgeons — Dr. Swetnam and Dr. Roller. If anyone is curious about body contouring or any cosmetic procedure, there is only one doctor in my opinion, and that is Dr. Swetnam. I will forever be grateful to him.
