Abdominoplasty
A tummy tuck, otherwise known as an abdominoplasty, is when excess skin and stretch marks are removed from the lower abdomen and the muscles are tightened. The procedure makes the abdomen flatter and removes skin that has been stretched by having babies or losing weight. Like many women, Monique Holly lost the ability to flatten her lower and mid abdomen after having her four children. This happens because the connective tissue is stretched and no matter how much working out a patient does, the connective tissue remains unaffected.
Others gain and lose substantial weight leaving excess skin and sometimes stretch marks, which was also the case for Monique. In this case, the skin has lost its elasticity. To re-gain a youthful tummy, it must be removed.
The tummy tuck is a great option for all of these issues.
Patient Spotlight: Monique Holly
My story dates back to 2002 when I had my first child. I weighed 92 pounds when I got pregnant, and the day I delivered I weighed in 163 pounds; that’s a total of 71 pounds.
During my pregnancy, I got stretch marks, and while most people don’t normally get stretch marks above their belly button, I had several. My stomach looked like a pile of kneaded dough… it looked gross to me, and I was extremely self-conscious. I have since had three more children, but after having all four kids, I had a lot of excess skin on my abdomen I couldn’t get rid of by myself.
I tried everything from exercising to creams that “promised” to tighten my skin, but to my disappointment, nothing worked. That’s when I looked into getting a tummy tuck. I did some research and a friend told me about Dr. Swetnam and highly recommended him, so I called and set up a consultation. I had never had cosmetic surgery before, so I was a little nervous and didn’t know what to expect. To my surprise everyone at Dr. Swetnam’s office was so kind and willing to answer any of my questions. Dr. Swetnam exuded genuine compassion for my concerns. He made me feel comfortable and took time to explain my options, and what I could expect after surgery.
I am beyond grateful for Dr. Swetnam and his staff for everything they have done for me. I’m not sure they grasp the impact they have truly had on my life. I would do it all again in a heartbeat; I have no regrets at all.
